School Based Health Centers
School based health centers take our model of care directly to young people who might otherwise not get services. Getting care while at school can reduce missed school days and identify health needs before they get worse.
In the school setting, young people can get their health care – including physical health care and sexual health care – and they can get help with other problems and issues, including mental health. School based health centers are a safe haven for adolescents to receive confidential and inclusive care in a non-judgmental, culturally sensitive environment.
Our school based health centers provide more than 7,000 students with medical, sexual and reproductive health, mental health, and health education services every year. Nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and pediatricians with training in adolescent medicine provide medical services along with social workers, who provide individual and group counseling.
When students enroll in the school based health centers they become our patients and can obtain the full range of services offered at our main site at 312 East 94th Street in Manhattan. Many first get introduced to the Mount Sinai Adolescent Health Center through this model.
