Weight Management

We designed our weight management services to address the rising incidence of obesity—a condition that can lead to more serious conditions—in children, teens and young adults. Our goal is to provide young people with the right tools and nutritional information that will allow them to take an active role in managing their health—for today and in the future.

Eating Disorders

We provide evidence-based treatment for adolescents who struggle with anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, binge eating disorder and other types of disordered eating patterns. Our team of experts customize each treatment plan to best meet the specific medical nutritional, and mental health needs of a patient.  Depending on the type and severity of the disorder, patients are seen as often as needed for individual or family sessions.  Our clinical team includes adolescent medicine specialists, a registered dietitian, social workers, psychologists and psychiatrists.

Each young person is provided:

  • A comprehensive medical evaluation (including physical exam and laboratory tests)
  • Ongoing medical care by a adolescent medicine specialist
  • A nutritional assessment with ongoing nutrition counseling and education services by a registered dietician
  • An evaluation of emotional well being and mental health and ongoing help

Teen Fit

Teen Fit is a free wellness program focused on improving the physical and mental well-being of teens ages 10-26. To accomplish this goal, we combine exercise classes with nutrition education and skill building to challenge negative coping behaviors. Classes take place at the Mount Sinai Adolescent Health Center or the 92nd Street Y and include training sessions that focus on improving strength, flexibility and aerobic capacity. For young people with weight management needs, they can also meet with our Nutritionist and Social Worker who can help customize weight management plans. In this program, we combine nutrition education, mental health services and physical activity to support an overall healthy lifestyle.

What to Expect

We believe that every young person has the right to physical health and emotional well-being. That’s why we offer completely free fitness classes led by certified fitness instructors. You’ll also learn about mindfulness, healthy eating, coping skills and self-care during our special wellness classes throughout the year. Teen Fit is all about boosting your confidence. It can help you build muscle and tone your abs, reduce stress and anxiety, improve your self-esteem and body image and lose weight.
